Sensigom have developed innovative interactive technology that can be incorporated into the surface of your play area using sensors. Add the dimension of sound and light, using brightly coloured graphics in your surfacing. The totem pole, which houses the technology, can be programmed to enhance any game, encouraging literacy & numeracy, turn taking, following instructions, movement and most of all FUN! You can even play your own music via Bluetooth!

Sensigom offer a variety of sensory items and games that can be installed indoors, connecting to existing power sources or outdoors, using solar power or electric supply. This technology can be used to enhance the play value in any playground and is particularly appropriate to accommodate inclusive play for all and therefore ideal provision in SEN settings.

Sensigom are committed to creating fun and engaging sensory games for the play sector and we are delighted to be able to offer this technology here in Ireland. We are looking forward to using these products in an effective, creative and inclusive way in our projects.

We have recently installed custom Sensigom graphics in a school in Fermanagh, Northern Ireland, along with many other sensory items to aid, engage and include children with visual impairment within the schools main playground.

The video below shows their Multi-Game Board. Children can play Tic-Tac-Toe, Musical Chairs and Chase, to name a few.

HAGS SMP exceeds new european standard for outdoor equipment

23/7/2015

HAGS SMP has introduced additional features to exceed the new European Standard for permanently installed outdoor fitness equipment, EN 16630, which came into effect in June 2015.

The new European Standard has clarified safety issues and test methods for outdoor adult fitness equipment in the market. It has also established a clear set of guidelines to ensure specifiers, purchasers and manufacturers have an understanding of positive recommendations towards outdoor facilities. To further improve safety, provide ease of use and ensure fitness products pass inspections, we have developed additional features to complement the new EN 16630 standard through the introduction of effective labelling with QR codes and internal stoppers.

The EN 16630 standard requires labelling on all equipment with information regarding exercise instructions, main equipment functions and safety information. Our product range not only conforms to the new standard but also goes beyond by featuring QR codes for equipment use for youths and adults with a height greater than 1.4m. The QR codes also provide assurance about medical safety before use and QR code web links to brand new user training videos.

We have also taken additional steps to improve safety by installing internal stoppers. Although external stoppers on fitness equipment comply with EN16630, introducing internal stoppers has reduced the danger of entrapment of hands and feet. The new internal stopper systems now apply to the Air Skier, Air Walker and Lat Pull & Push equipment, to provide enhanced safety and improve usability of the equipment.

UK Sales Director Mark Grace says: “Prior to the introduction of the new European Safety Standard, there was a great deal of confusion in the marketplace about which standard was applicable to outdoor fitness equipment. EN 16630 has clarified the situation and all other conflicting standards have been withdrawn."

“It was a natural step for HAGS SMP to exceed the basic requirements following the introduction of the new standard. We have worked with our customers to respond to their outdoor fitness equipment needs so they can make clearer and more informed purchasing decisions. HAGS SMP’s range of outdoor fitness equipment is not only extensive and offers market leading guarantees, it also conforms to and is certified to EN 16630.”

Following the introduction of EN 16630, the Register of Playground Inspectors International (RPII) now uses the EN 16630 when carrying out annual and post installation inspections.

We've been awarded the contract for Rathnew Play Area for Wicklow County Council

17/7/2015

Including a Play Area, Kick-About, Skate Park and Parkour!!

Rathnew, Wicklow Play Area, Skate Park, Parkour
We have won the contract for Rathnew Park, a massive and inclusive park area for all ages! Work on site begins 27th July 2015.

Project Summary

Due to the age structure of the population of Rathnew, it was vital to provide a community space with something for children of all ages as well as young adults and parents to enjoy.

It was decided to keep the teenage and young adults’ areas to one end of the site and to locate the under 12 years Playground at the opposite end.  This is to reduce the risks associated with very young children and wheeled sports or Teen play.

The kickabout area provides an opportunity for Ball play, along with the social benefits that come with such games, whilst the Wheeled Sports area provides a suitable and specified place for teens to carry out these popular sports.

The Parkour element is a relatively new concept in Ireland and allows teenagers to socialise and engage in non competitive play using obstacles that resemble existing urban architecture and existing natural shapes in a way that natural and gradual progression is encouraged whilst maintaining a safe and controlled environment for fitness, balance, co-ordination, creativity.  A teen shelter will allow rest and a great spot for spectators.

All equipment included in the Playground carries a thirty year guarantee.  The range of equipment is varied and includes units that are suitable for all ability and mobility levels, encouraging universal play throughout the park.

Where possible the site will remain in grass and sweeping pathways will enable all users to navigate the entire park with ease. Planting and landscaping shall be used throughout the area to enhance the overall park setting.

Stay tuned to hear more about our progress on site!

Meet Mark Grace: HAGS SMP UK sales director by day, API's champion by night

Mark Grace API
Mark has recently been appointed as executive officer of the UK leading trade body within the sport and play industry. Want to know more about what he is planning to do during his stint at the API? Read the full interview on the API's website

First, congratulations on your new role! Do you have any exciting projects up your sleeve?
"It’s still early days but it is great to be part of an organisation that is at the forefront of campaigning at the highest level for continued investment in children’s play facilities. I believe it’s important to represent an active trade body and with three children of my own I’m keen to see them play, learn and have fun in a play environment that has been sourced from a reputable API company. As a parent I’d want to be secure in the knowledge that any playground they visit comes from a supplier that has experience and expertise in children’s play and that safety and play value are of paramount importance. The time I give to the API will be to encourage these key things and support awareness of those ‘cut-price, rogue’ operators that offer inferior products, poor quality installations and over-sold guarantees throughout our market."

You recently worked closely with the design team to launch Primary Arena, which is a multi-sports court specifically designed for Primary School children. What do you like the most about it?
"Remember “The Wrong Trousers”, “A Grand Day-out” and “A Close Shave”? All produced by the inspirational Nick Parks, Childrens award winning Director and Producer of the Wallace & Gromit Saga? As an entertainment company of a different kind, HAGS-SMP have produced their own masterpiece. ‘Mark & Gary’s Special Project’ has transformed into what today, is known as ‘Primary Arena’ - An inclusive sports area designed for Primary School children of all abilities. This flexible and adaptable sports system started 15 months ago with a frenzy of ideas over coffee and donuts. Sketches and artwork by Gary Wallis, Creative Design Manager for HAGS-SMP got the ball rolling, and when the Primary Spaces programme was announced in March 2014, it was like our own Christmas block-buster had arrived at our door. A few months later and we’re proud to take those original concepts, apply our experience gained from the SEPS programme and together with the sound educational knowledge & expertise of Simon Carson, Schools Business Manager, launch a truly fantastic entertainment product for Primary School Children. The system is derived around three simple aspects. Play, Exercise & Learn. It encourages both group and individual play. It supports creative thinking, active lifestyles and will keep children of all ages and abilities entertained for many, many lunch-time breaks. The real benefit of the product is that children are invited to creative and active learning though non-prescriptive activities based around literacy and mathematical thinking that link to the national curriculum to ensure positive outcomes around Playing, Exercising and Learning can be achieved."

Describe your ideal playground
"I grew-up in a seaside town on the fringes of open countryside and although a lot has changed in recent years my ideal playground as a child growing up was the environment I lived in. Rocks, beeches, sand, water, woodlands and wilderness. Whilst it’s difficult to define what the ‘perfect’ playground might look like, I guess my ideal playground would feature a range of dynamics that allow exploration, offers visible manageable risks, as playing is all about testing and transcending one's limits as I did when swinging from trees and clambering over rocks as a child. But if there is no beech or woodland within an urban environment, it’s important to provide children with something comparable that allows for equal exploration and excitement.

HAGS SMP endeavours to recreate the rich and varied experience that nature offers with inspiring play spaces, thoughtful landscape design which incorporates natural elements and non-prescriptive features that give children the freedom to imagine their own scenarios. Our playgrounds are a meeting point for children of all ages, as well as their mums and dads."
